How to choose an electric drill?

An electric drill is a fairly necessary tool in the household of every home master. Without it, all the basic work on home improvement does not do, starting with minor repairs of furniture and ending with hanging a picture or curtains. An electric drill allows you to make holes in plastic, plastic, brick, concrete, wood, and if there are special nozzles in the kit. This tool can be used as grinding and cutting equipment. The so-called drill-screwdriver is used when unscrewing and twisting screws and self-tapping screws.

Choose an electric drill

When choosing an electric drill, they are guided by its main characteristics: rotational speed, power and possible drill diameter.

  1. The speed of the drill is usually measured at idle. It is measured in revolutions per minute and can be up to 3000 units. Electric drills, in which the speed of rotation is regulated, are considered more universal, since they are suitable for use in drilling a wide variety of materials, as well as as screwdrivers.
  2. The power of the drill can also be in a fairly wide range - from 300 to 1500 watts. Electric drills, whose power is up to 500 W, are used to make small holes. Equipment with high power is designed for drilling holes with a large diameter and it is quite bulky. At home, it is very inconvenient.
  3. Electric drills are divided into two classes: domestic and professional. They differ in operating time and their functionality, in addition, professional electric drills are more reliable, but also expensive. Impact drills are well suited for the house, which allow you to drill holes in brick and concrete.
  4. For charging, electric drills can be battery and network. Among the first advantages are drills with nickel-metal hybrid batteries, which can be used at low temperatures.

Functionally, the drills are quite diverse. In addition to the aforementioned impact drills and screwdrivers, there are, for example, angular electric drills - that is, with a gearbox rotated 90 degrees, which allows drilling in inaccessible places. It is also worth mentioning the drill with torque (mixers), which are used to mix bulk or liquid materials.

In general, before making a choice of a drill, the master should decide on the volume and list of works that he plans to carry out using this tool, and on the basis of this, already acquire the model of electric drill necessary for him. Read about how to choose the right hammer here.
